Montoursville Mayor John Dorin was elected to office in 1982. Prior to being elected Mayor, he served four years on Montoursville Borough Council. Mayor Dorin is a graduate of Temple University. Dorin also attended Ursinus College, University of Scranton and Williamsport Area Community College. Mayor Dorin retired after 30 years as a member of management of GTE Products Corporation, Reach Road, Williamsport. He is the past Treasurer/Manager of the GTE Sylvania Lycoming Area Federal Credit Union. He recently retired from Jersey Shore Steel Company. Mayor Dorin is the past-president of the Pennsylvania Association of Mayors and a member of its executive board. He is currently Legislative Chairman of the Pennsylvania Association of Mayors and serves as a Lobbyist for this association. Mayor Dorin is President of the Lycoming/Sullivan County Boroughs Association. After serving as President of the Pennsylvania State Association of Boroughs for 2002-2003, he served on the executive board as Immediate Past-President for 2003-2004. Mayor Dorin currently serves as Chairman of the Legislative Action Committee and Chairman of the Recreation Committee of PSAB. Mayor Dorin is a member of the Bloomsburg University Foundation and a member of its Executive Committee. He is a member of the West Branch Joint Municipal Purchasing Consortium. He is a member of the Arson/Drug Fund Board and a member of the executive board of the General John Burrows Historical Society of Montoursville. He is a member of Alliance 2000 and past-chairman of the Board of Trustees of Bloomsburg University. Mayor Dorin is a past member of the Pennsylvania Hazardous Waste Facilities Planning Advisory Committee and past-president of the North Central Pennsylvania Purchasing Association and a current member of the National Association of Purchasing Management. Mayor Dorin was recipient of the 1989 Grit Publishing Group’s Meritorious Community Service Award. Mayor Dorin is a past interim District Chairman of the Susquehanna Council of Boy Scouts of America and past Chairman of Troop 27, Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, where he is a member. He is past Chairman of Catholic Scouting in the Lycoming District and received the St. George Medal, the highest Catholic Scouting Award. A past President of the Men’s Society of the church, he serves as usher, Commentator and Eucharistic Minister. Mayor Dorin is a past member of the Board of the Lycoming Valley Association of the Deaf, Inc. and past member of the Executive Board of the Williamsport Area Health Care Federal Credit Union. Mayor Dorin is a past member of the Policy and Resolutions Steering Committee of the Pennsylvania State Association of Boroughs. Mayor Dorin is an Army Veteran and a member of the Eugene Grafius American Legion Post 104, Montoursville. Mayor Dorin was the recipient of the 1998 Outstanding Mayor Award presented b y the Association of Mayors of the Boroughs of Pennsylvania. He also received the 1998 American Hometown Leadership Award, co-sponsored by the National Center for Small Communities and Wal Mart. Mayor Dorin is a member of the Flight 800 Memorial Construction Committee. He was the Honorary Chairman of Montoursville Sesquicentennial Committee, celebrating the borough’s 150th Anniversary in 2000. Mayor Dorin is a three time past-President of the Montoursville Area Kiwanis Club. He has also served as an instructor at the Williamsport Area Community College, presently known as Pennsylvania College of Technoloty. Mayor Dorin serves as Vice-Chairman of LTAP. The Pennsylvania Local Roads Program represents a national inititive to transfer transportation technology to municipal government with the support of Penn State and PennDOT. He and his wife, the former Ann Marie Marciniak, are the parents of three children, James, Cynthia and Michelle and have a grandson, Nicholas. |
