Officer DeTato was raised in Montoursville and is a 1996 graduate of the Montoursville Area High School. After graduation, he traveled the United States visiting every state except for Maine, Louisiana, Michigan, Alaska and Hawaii. After returning to the area, Officer DeTato attended the Mansfield University Municipal Police Academy graduating in 2005 with honors, receiving the Academic Achievement Award with a 98% average.
